Patio House

Casa Patio, located in Abanilla, a small town in the Murcia region, derives its name from the Arabic Al-Bayada, meaning “the white city”.

The project is set in a rural area, designed as a home to be enjoyed by the family. With a new perspective on rural living, we aim to highlight the built environment, traditional techniques, and existing patterns. Following the culture of courtyards and Mediterranean living, this project revives the memory of Roman villas that structured the agricultural territory of Ager Tarraconensis around ancient Salauris.

With the intention of evoking childhood memories of vegetation shadows, water features, and orange trees in Andalusian patios, this home is envisioned as a courtyard house, a private retreat that embraces an inner oasis.

During the design process, local materials were used, incorporating Mediterranean tones and quarry stone to enhance authenticity.
